Whether your life is going great, you’re just plugging along, or it feels like it’s in complete shambles, you may have found yourself wondering, “Who needs personal development, do I?”
Everyone Needs Personal Development
The simple answer is, yes. Actually, everyone can benefit from personal development. Why? Because life is unpredictable and things are bound to happen every now and then that will knock you off balance. That’s when the skills learned through personal development are most needed, as they help you bounce back quickly.
Personal development is a means by which you gain insight into yourself and how you are operating in life. As you become aware, the process then guides you to personal growth, greater achievement and overall satisfaction, no matter how good or bad your life seems at the time.
For example, let’s say you’re going through a time when it feels like everything is falling apart. You may feel like the whole world has ganged up on you and you can’t catch a break. No matter how hard you try, things just keep spiraling down and it seems like the world is imploding on you. When that happens, it’s easy to fall into victimhood.
In this case, you are definitely someone who needs personal development. It will help you take responsibility for changing your situation and therefore, regain control of your life.
Even when life feels like it’s going well you are still someone who needs personal development because it can make life even better.
You don’t know what you don’t know
I learned that lesson at my very first personal growth seminar. Actually, I thought I was going to a seminar that would help me become successful in building a home based business. In fact, it was all about personal development. One of the things that I learned is that there were things about myself that I didn’t know that I didn’t know, until then.
My biggest “aha” moment was when I realized that prior to that seminar, I didn’t know that I didn’t love or even like myself. The truth was that I thought my life was OK. I had a good job and had started my own part time business. I was going through the motions and I thought that was normal.
What I learned, though, is that I was actually holding myself back in many ways with some limiting beliefs about not feeling good enough or worthy of having it all. Those limiting beliefs were actually holding me prisoner and leading to self sabotage.
That was an eye-opening moment for me and I found myself asking, “Am I someone who needs personal development? Could it possibly help me? What could I gain from it?”
Twenty years have passed since that first seminar and my life has changed significantly because I was willing to move forward. I was willing to do the work and I wanted more from life. That first seminar showed me that the change would have to start with me and personal development was the key.
The same can be true for you as well.
So, where do you start?
The personal development path is different for everyone. My journey led to me hiring life coaches, going through hypnosis, reading self-help books and attending multiple personal growth seminars. Every step helped me move forward and better prepared me for life’s ups and downs.
I learned more about myself, gained confidence and increased my focus. I was able to prioritized things in my life and defined my goals, dreams and desires. Today, I am living a life that I love.
You can do the same. It’s never too late to begin the process of personal development. If you are wondering what your first or next step might be, reach out to me. I help people just like you start and continue the process of personal development so that you can live your best life.
